Overview
The Shantylillies is a female shanty group founded in August 2018 and based in Albany. Each woman brings something new and special with her to the group. We sing traditional working shanties and songs of the sea, maritime ballads, and a few of our own originals. We invite you to join with us as we bring a selection of songs that have been written for a “crew” to sing. We are keeping the old shantys alive, and adding a few new ones along the way.
“The Folk & Shanty Club” is hosted by “The Shantylillies” on the last Friday of each month. Open mic night where you are invited to sing shanties, folk, traditional, recite poetry, play some tunes…and everything in between. Admission is $5/person, $10 per family, to help pay for the hire of the hall. BYO drinks and nibbles. Free hot drinks available. Family friendly.
In addition to our “Folk and Shanty Club” on the last Friday of each month at King River Hall, “The Shantylillies” host another evening on the 2nd Friday of each month at “The Albany Club”.
Founded in 1890, this social club is in the heart of Albany @ 23 Aberdeen Street. There is a fully licenced bar and food is served on a Friday night. As at KRH, this is an open mic night, so come along and sing a song or 2, play a tune or two, recite a poem. Folk, shanty, traditional, Celtic and everything in between. It is free to enter, but NO BYO FOOD OR DRINK PLEASE.
