Overview
On behalf of the American Friends of the National Museum of the Royal Navy (AFNMRN), the National Maritime Historical Society invites you to celebrate the 217th anniversary of the history-making Battle of Trafalgar at the 17th New York City Pickle Night event.
Those who appreciate the historical significance of Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson and the lore associated with his life are encouraged to attend this special event. The Dinner is named for HM Schooner Pickle, which participated in the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805 and which brought the news to Britain of Nelson’s victory and death in the battle. This event has been a perennial success, with guests from the United States, Canada, Great Britain, France, Switzerland, and elsewhere. Proceeds from the NYC Pickle Night event will benefit the preservation and education efforts of the National Museum of the Royal Navy.
Vice Admiral Martin Connell CBE, Second Sea Lord, Royal Navy, will be the main speaker. Appointed Second Sea Lord in January 2022, he was most recently the Royal Navy’s Force Generation Director, Rear Admiral Fleet Air Arm, and Senior Responsible Owner of the Queen Elizabeth Class aircraft carrier program. He has commanded at sea on a number of occasions, including the former aircraft carrier and flagship HMS Illustrious. Ashore he served as the British Naval Attaché in Washington D.C.
In attendance will be AFNMRN founding members, RADM Joseph Callo, USN (Ret.) and CAPT Sally McElwreath Callo, USN (Ret.), both recent recipients of the NMHS David A. O’Neil Sheet Anchor Award.
Space is limited
The ticket price is $400 per person. Dress is black tie, military equivalent, or appropriate business attire.
The American Friends of the National Museum of the Royal Navy, our sponsor, is recognized as a tax-exempt organization. The Nelson Society, The 1805 Club and the National Maritime Historical Society also support this event.
