Overview
“The Tall Ships are Coming!® Kenosha, Wisconsin is looking forward to welcoming the Tall Ships Challenge® to our harbor on Lake Michigan – August 1-4, 2019. The festival is located on 54th Street and Sixth Avenue.”
After more than a decade, the tall ships festival returned to Kenosha in 2019. That event was an official part of the Tall Ships Challenge®, whereas the previous series of festivals – Kenosha Days of Discovery (2002, 2004 and 2007) – were independent of that organization. After 2007, the event control went from Patty Lock to Jim Buck, a past Commodore of the Kenosha Yacht Club. When asked about continuing the event he replied, “”You can’t believe how much those tall ships charge to come in!” He further stated that he was going to turn the event into a youth sailing event. Consequently, the event never happened again.
On May 1st, 2019 The Kenosha News reported, “The city is partnering with the Kenosha Sailing Center and Yacht Club to put up to 20 students on the [SV Denis] Sullivan for a sail around Lake Michigan”, and tagged it with Tall, Ships, Days, Discovery, Days Of Discovery.
Kenosha did not participate in the 2022 Tall Ships Challenge®.
