The names “Outward Bound” and “Gazela Primeiro” are synonymous amongst the musical community in Philadelphia, as they have been the resident sea shanty group aboard the vessel since she was docked at Pier 13 North. John Hoffman, Mary Zikos, Spencer Nelson and Teresa Pyott have educated while entertaining the throngs at Penn’s Landing, as well as the Philadelphia Folk Festival, Gardiner’s Basin, and on TV and radio. They perform a variety of sea songs and shanties, drinking songs, and ballads, and bring a new, vivacious life to the work songs of the sea. Much of the fun lies in audience participation, so join Outward Bound in a rollicking musical adventure!
