The Sea Shanty Sing-Outs at Pier Wisconsin were held on the first Monday of every month by David HB Drake in the old lake ferry terminal building. It was regularly attended by up to thirty or more maritime music fans. David used song books which were originally assembled by Cliff Long for the “sea shanty” classes that he taught at the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago. Kathi Obuchowski had taken the digital files from the Long collection, edited them, generated an index and produced about fifty hard copies in report binders. The sing-outs were halted when the site was taken over by the Discovery World Museum when construction began for its new, lakeside facility on that location. That organization also took control of the tall ship S/V Denis Sullivan as part of its agreement with the City of Milwaukee to acquire use of the lakeside property.
