So gather yer crew, don yer finest eye patch, and set sail for the Withernsea Pirate Festival. Yo ho ho!
The first Withernsea International Pirate Festival took place in 2013 and was so successful that it was made into an annual event that lasted six years.
Last year, (2023) during a 10-year reunion of the Withernsea Pirates, Will and Lin Wilson – relative newcomers to the town – agreed to revive the festival, which will take place in Valley Gardens from noon to 10pm on Saturday, July 20.
The free event will feature entertainment, crafts and games for children during the day, and live music in the evening performed by local artists.
A spokesman said: “Sadly, after six years the festival was consigned to Davy Jones’s locker. On an appropriately stormy night in 2023 a 10-year reunion of the Withernsea Pirates took place in an alehouse in town.
“Despite the weather, the evening was a hearty success – fun was had by all, and a small sum was raised for charity.
“In attendance that night were Will and Lin Wilson, who were subsequently press-ganged by the Withernsea Pirates to raise the festival once more.”
