The shanty choir, “Chants du Large,” (“Songs of the Sea” in English) is directly linked to the Jard-sur-Mer Nautical Club in France.

The first choirmaster was Claude Le Breton. He took charge during the first steps of this choir, created on the initiative of the Directors of the nautical Club and whose numbers very quickly reached fifteen. Philippe Brunaud took over this responsibility in 2013 and became the choir’s musical director.

The Jard nautical club has about 180 members, 50 motorboats and 50 sailboats “If nautical activities are the backbone of the club, it would never have known such celebrity without its maritime choir. I usually say that it is our showcase,” continues the president.

“With its 13 women, 14 men and 7 musicians, it shines through the quality of its services in institutions for the elderly and in municipal events, Telethon, sea festival, and not only in Jard-sur-Mer.”

Note: This group should not be confused with “Chant du Large”, from Belz in Brittany
