Bounding Main CD Fish Out of Water FOoW

The Ballina Whalers was Peter Truin, Jamie Doe and Sam Brookes – three musical barnacles clinging to the creaking hull of a musical tradition stretching back over hundreds of years. Using just their voices they explore ballads, shanties and seafaring songs that tell tales of whaling ships, lost loves, roaring storms, and hardship out at sea.

The last few years have been extremely busy ones for the boys, seeing them palying folk clubs, harborsides, beaches, boat sheds and festivals up and down the country. Feeling the pull of the great unknown, they spent the summer of ’11 walking the coast of Wales collecting folk songs and sharing their knowledge and repertoire of the sea. In 2016 they returned from a triumphal time at the International Sea Shanty Festival in Appingedam, the Netherlands.

Originally formed in 2012, The Ballina Whalers fast became one of the most sought after vocal trios around, establishing an international reputation for their heart rending three part harmonies and their lusty approach to singing shanties. After the release of their third EP in 2015, The Ballina Whalers took a break from performing to spend time on other projects, with Sam and Jamie focusing on their busy solo careers and Pete’s shanty choir going from strength to strength.
