Overview

Marinade was born in 1990 in Normandy out of a shared passion for music, partying, traditional dances and the sea.

“We are attached to tradition and respect it but we believe that it should not remain frozen in folklore and must continue to live by evolving. This is why our repertoire is composed of songs of traditional sailors and compositions on historical maritime facts (Shipwreck of The Alabama in 1864 off the Cotentin, the sailors of Surcouf stranded in Diélette…). We also create songs on current themes, (Christophe Auguin’s 3 victories in around the world races our coasts soiled by oil spills…). We like to share our Celtic-inspired music, resolutely acoustic and have done more than a thousand concerts in France and abroad: Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, Poland, Quebec, Germany…”

Marinade performs as a two, three or four-piece group and embarks on a musical journey to all the seas of the globe with mandatory stopovers at Cape Horn, Valparaiso, on the benches of Newfoundland, in the Mediterranean or closer to home on the Normandy and Breton coasts.

Songs with responses, others without choruses, instrumentals gleaned at random from our travels, compositions or songs of traditional sailors arranged by Marinade make this one and a half hour show bounce. Ancient and contemporary stories alternate with happy moments and others full of emotions or revolt against the degradations inflicted on the maritime world and our blue planet.

Marinade offers 3 different shows: Chante la Mer, Bal à Mômes, Bal Folk as well as Song Creation Workshops, traditional dances, instrumental practice or “green music”.

The group has produced four albums: Nere maove, Privé d’amour, Boite de concert and Bal à mômes, which are available via their website. Boîte de Concert is also available via Discogs.
