Matthew DeChant

Matthew DeChant is an aural storyteller in every sense of the word. Descended from a long line of circus clowns and opera singers, performing is in his blood, and music is the way he interfaces with reality. He is comfortable in many artistic worlds, be that the world of contemporary classical music or the world of traditional folk music.

Matthew DeChant is a former member of Larry’s Privateers, the maritime music group associated with Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin.

His EP, The Windjammer Collection was “Salvaged from the wreck of a project that never made it to port, the Windjammer EP is a collection of original and traditional songs about the sea and those who live on it. With sounds ranging from Watersons-style vocal harmony to Tom Waits-style junkyard poetry, these songs tackle everything from fishing in Norfolk to mysterious shipwrecks on our own Lake Michigan.”
