Overview
This biennial festival was created in the district of Trévignon in Trégunc in August 2018 by La Bordée, a maritime song group from Trégunc, on the occasion of its twentieth anniversary. It is organised jointly with the Amicale laïque de Saint Philibert.. Given the artistic and popular success of the event, it was agreed to renew it, every two years, in even years. Prevented in 2020 by the pandemic, the event returned in 2022 in an extended format to 2 evenings each offering three concerts and a fest-noz, with different groups every day.
By organising this festival, the group La Bordée wants to pay tribute to the rich intangible heritage represented by the song of sailors, an expression of the life, activities, sorrows and joys of sea workers at the time of the sailing navy. The songs could punctuate the manoeuvres on board -the work songs-, occupy their free time in the petola -the songs of front guys-, accompany them on land at the difficult time of departures or at the expected time of returns -the quay songs-.
Often created by anonymous, oral transmission, these songs have come to us and have found a new existence through the mouths of the singers of many groups who have appreciated the authenticity, variety, soul of these songs, true “blues” of the sea. Contemporary creations now enrich the traditional repertoire.
On Friday 2 and Saturday 3 August, 2024 the Fête du chant de marin returned even larger, with 145 singers and musicians taking to the stage at Trévignon.
