The French maritime song group,  “À Virer,” (“to turn or change direction in a ship” in English) comes from Plougastel-Daoulas in Finistère, Brittany and numbers about twenty singers and five musicians.

In February 2025 the group announced:

“À Virer is expanding to offer you even more maritime magic!

We are delighted to announce that our family has been enriched with 4 new singers and an excellent musician with flute, dulcimer and renaissance clarinet!

With these new talents, our repertoire of sailor songs is expanding and promises to be even more mesmerising. These authentic melodies, full of adventure stories and maritime traditions, will transport you to the rhythm of the waves!”

A review of their most recent album reads:

“Fifteen years after their “official” debut on the quays of Brest 2000, the sailors of A virer push back the retirement age to the Greek calends and release a new CD. The boys in red set sail, this winter, to the islands, the docks and the Route du rhum for a musical journey that gives pride of place to adventure. From Tréboul to Pouldu, from the West Indies to Saint-Malo, they want to offer the public a good long-term trip, full of iodine and winds, not to mention girls like Fanny…”
