Overview

Joe Stead began singing folk songs in the 1950’s. He was referred to as a legend by some. he was certainly a folklorist of some repute on numerous aspects of the maritime music genre. He has met and sung with Paul Robeson and Pete Seeger. He was invited to sing in Chile in South America at the First Valparaiso Festival of the Sea. Together with Kimber’s Men he appeared frequently at festivals all over Great Britain.

After 15 years, Stead retired from Kimber’s Men and was pitching his book, Ramblings of an Old Codger, before he died. He is survived by his widow, Nora Stead, his son Leigh Stead, and his daughter, Dominique Stead, who is curating his Facebook profile and other media legacy items.
