Overview
The local maritime song group, Hooks and Crookes organised a special anniversary shanty festival 17-19 May 2019 in conjunction with the Dunmore East Harbour Festival in County Waterford, Ireland with singing on the stages by day and in the local hostelries at night.
The Dunmore East Harbour Festival was a fun-filled jamboree of events based around the iconic Lighthouse down in the Harbour at Dunmore East. There were various activities over the two days with marquees, stages including pop up stages, food stalls, well-being activities, exhibitions, walks etc, to name but a few of the exciting events.
Alexander Nimmo was a Scottish engineer who left an indelible mark on Dunmore East and on Ireland. His name is linked with the building of the harbour and lighthouse at Dunmore East, a structure that stands as solid and enduring today as it did when first completed over two centuries ago.
Dunmore East is a popular tourist and fishing town in County Waterford, Ireland. Situated on the west side of Waterford Harbour on Ireland’s southeastern coast. The town also holds small boats, food and Bluegrass festivals, which appear to have superseded maritime events.
