Overview

One weekend every month, resident sea shanty groups, The HogEye Men and Swinging the Lead transform the famous tea clipper’s ‘Tween Deck with the harmonies of sea shanties, traditional working songs. The groups perform on alternate days to entertain visitors to this famous attraction.

The Hogeye Men perform on the first Saturday and Swinging the Lead on the first Sunday of the month (*).

(*) Note: Performances take place over the first weekend of the month when both Saturday and Sunday are in that month. For example, if the 1st of the month was a Sunday, the shanty sessions would be held the following weekend.

The event has been such a  success that from an initial one day to month, shanty groups now perform over two days. Admission is included with your ticket to Cutty Sark, come along to hear this enduring maritime tradition brought to life!

The HogEye Men

With almost 20 years of experience as a group singing shanties and maritime songs to audiences around the country, including a monthly residency on Cutty Sark since 2019, The HogEye Men are respected as London’s primary exponents of these unaccompanied working songs from a past age. The group blends strong voices and subtle harmonies to give audiences a taste of the true nature of the traditional shanty form, while also offering them a selection of more up-to-date tales of the sea.

Swinging the Lead

Swinging the Lead have been Cutty Sark‘s resident sea shanty singers since 2011. All have sea-going experience, including sailing on tall ships and a keen interest in the sea and maritime matters.
