The Jaco Schipperskoor was founded in January 1992 following an evening benefiting the Groningen Wadden Island of Rottumeroog. It currently comprises 23 singers and two accordionists, all from Warffum and the surrounding area.

Our repertoire consists of well-known and lesser-known shanties and sea songs, mostly sung in three-part harmony in the local dialect from Groningen, in Dutch, German and English.

Our own translations and compositions are also part of the repertoire, to which new songs are regularly added. These are often songs with an emotional connection to the shore, while others evoke homesickness and melancholy for distant shores and unattainable girls.

In short, the Jaco Schipperskoor presents itself with a repertoire for various occasions.

In addition to many performances in the Netherlands, including shanty evenings we organize with guest choirs, the choir has toured Norway and France and sung several times in Belgium and Germany by invitation.

Our choir has also frequently performed in nursing homes and care homes, where we have offered many a pleasant afternoon or evening.

We rehearse every two weeks on Tuesday evenings in the RABO hall of the

Op Roakeldaishal, an event hall in Warffum where annually a big international dancing festival is held.

A performance by the Jaco Schipperskoor is synonym for a convivial environment in a relaxed atmosphere, as usual on the waterfront.

For lots of fun and musical experience,
