Overview
The Aude Shantymen formed in 2013, when a bunch of English expats living in and around the Aude region of France decided that, despite being 70 miles from the coast, a shanty crew was needed to amuse the locals.
They are based in the area of Mirepoix and Limoux, not far from the Pyrenees. They meet regularly to sing sea shanties and folk songs, as well as other songs that take their fancy.
Musicians and singers from here and there, (mostly English), they perform at Festivals, including Escale in Sète, concerts, weddings and other private, public or social events.
The Aude Shantymen’s objective is to sing in harmony, marine songs from all countries and collect donations for the benefit of the rescuers at sea of the SNSM (The French National Sea Rescue Society).
