Sailor Dad (John M. Hunt)

John M. “Sailor Dad” Hunt was one of several working sailors recorded by Alan Lomax and his team, the songs released in the series Folk Music of the United States in 1952.  The collection was re-released as American Sea Songs & Shanties under the Library of Congress Archive of Folk Culture.  John A. Lomax recorded Hunt performing When Jones’s Ale was New (a forebitter) for President Roosevelt at the White House in Washington D.C. in 1941.
