Overview
Paul Read was a shanty and folk song singer based in Toronto, a member of folk quartet Sweet Felons All, and the founder of Toronto’s longest-running traditional folk club, Another Bloody Folk Club. Singing, particularly in a social setting with friends, was on of Paul’s greatest joys. Paul had the gift of being able to find great songs to sing and of singing them from the heart with a twinkle in his eye. Paul’s solo album, ‘Only the Good Ones’ was recorded in the last year of Paul’s life when he knew the end was near. It contains some of Paul’s favourite songs to sing – new and old. Have a listen, and make sure you join in the chorus – that’s what Paul would have wanted. Paul’s son, Stefan, sings with Toronto’s shantymen Pressgang Mutiny and Paul made many appearances on stage to lead songs with that group.
