Overview
The Shanty Sirens are an all-female shanty group based in Sheringham, Norfolk, which along with the Sheringham Shantymen has become an unlikely hotbed of Sea Shanty singing in the county!
Sheringham‘s own Shanty Sirens are once again raising money for the national charity Breast Cancer Now and this year we’ve added the North Norfolk Macmillan Cancer Support Centre in Cromer to our list.
Last year, (2025) we were proud to raise over £2,200 for charity.
Our group of 22 women meets each Saturday at Upper Sheringham Village Hall to sing a mix of traditional shanties and songs of the sea.
Over the short time that we’ve sung together, we’ve discovered new friends and pride ourselves on the joyful supportive nature of our group.
Singing has so many benefits from boosting the brain to reducing pain. It releases endorphins associated with pleasure and wellbeing and is an effective stress reliever. We certainly always feel great after a session.
Already this year we have performed at many local care homes and Village Fayres We will also be busking regularly outside The Crown in Sheringham throughout the summer.
One of the highlights of our year will be singing at the renowned Brancaster Shanty Festival in September, a first for us! It’s going to be a fun filled summer!
