Trio La Bouline (the bowline) is a group of musicians performing sailors’ shanties (traditional or compositions) founded in 1996. Duo first, then trio then quintet, sextet, and new trio: three musicians but many instruments, banjo, bouzouki, guitars , diatonic accordion, flutes, tuba, bodhran and cajon. According to the currents which keep some musicians away, and the downwind winds which bring back others, the crew has traced, during these years since its founding, its musical wake on the waves of the Loire or the sea and in many festivals, in France, Europe and Quebec.

La Bouline are based in the Loire region of France, for centuries an important trade route to the sea. Sailors from that region plied their trade in traditional square rigged boats by day and sung of their exploits at night. So the heritage of the Loire valley is combined with the maritime heritage of the 3 Breton members of the band to produce a unique mixture of traditional and self penned songs.

Daniel Grall is a former member of La Bouline when it was a sextet.  He now performs with other musical partners or as a solo performer.
