4Sheets Shantymen

The age of sail brought us the songs of the sea. The working songs of the day eased the stress and effort required for the turning of a Capstan, the pulling of a Sheet or the pumping of a bilge.

4Sheets Shantymen first embarked on their musical voyage of discovery together in 2019. Dave, Michael, Mike and Paul are a group of like minded men who enjoy singing Shanties and Sea Songs.

The origins of these songs can be traced back to the early 1600’s where the songs were more of a sound rather than a song. Since then the songs have evolved into what we hear today.

They may be found at the Henty Arms, Ferring near Worthing in East Sussex and were seen to have led shanty singing evenings there, most recently (at time of writing, August 2025) 22/1/2025 and 26/3/202
