Overview
The Albany Shantymen were formed in early 2016 by Gary ‘Grizz’ Greenwald. Grizz had been singing with The Sheringham Shantymen at their rehearsals prior to emigrating from Norfolk in the East of England to Albany in Western Australia.
To form the group Grizz propositioned strange men at moments of crisis or vulnerability. “Dazed and confused, they often didn’t realise what they had done until they found themselves singing shanties in the pub”.
In a bewilderingly inexplicable run of good fortune, the group have stumbled and lurched from success to success.
They have been featured on national TV and radio in Australia an alarming number of times. The group have sung in stadiums and been booked for headline sporting events. Their music streams on Spotify, iTunes, and YouTube number in seven figures. They have even been name-dropped in Rolling Stone Magazine.
Like almost every other shanty crew they are actually just a group of mates that meet in the pub for a drink and some singing.

The group has produced four albums, but has not made available the means by which to order the physical CDs online.
