Overview
Amarre & Basse is a music group that offers both songs and tales of the sea. They come from Bas Saint Laurent in Quebec and their performances are unusual in the way they alternate musical tales with sailors’ songs, (essentially compositions, and some songs from the collective Breton and Quebec heritage).
They transport us, sometimes to the sea and sometimes to a tavern. The writing often tinged with emotions and supported by a beautiful presence of bass guitar, harmonica, brass, percussion and guitar. A performance of Amarre & Basses is an invitation to travel.
One of their performances, “Le vent du fleuve m’a raconté,” (The wind on the river told me) is a narrated and musical show about maritime superstitions. Olivier Garot is a celebrated storyteller who has been writing and telling sea stories for a number of years.
