Teignmouth’s Back Beach Boyz shanty crew are named after the famous “Back Beach” where everyone meets to watch the sunsets and socialise.

“The Back Beach Boyz bring energy, originality and a touch of Devonian charm to every stage they step on. Since forming in 2013 our lively crew has made waves at festivals across the South West and beyond – even appearing on BBC TV singing one of our own compositions. Also performing in iconic venues like Exeter Cathedral and the National Maritime Museum, Cornwall as well as overseas at the international Vegesack Maritime Festival in Germany. With a strong catalogue of original songs and albums we serve up lively maritime folk songs and sea shanties with a twist and a whole lot of heart! We believe in having fun whilst we are singing, which is reflected in our albums, ‘Good Libations”, ‘Captain Baarman’s Dog’ and ‘Captain Jack Spratt’. Many of the tracks on the 2 latter albums were written by members of the band.”

The Back Beach Boyz was also responsible for organising the Teign Maritime & Shanty Festival.
