The Blowboys from Rostock

To blow maritime music and sea shanties from Rostock out into the world – that’s the mission of these seven coastal lads! Part of the current crew already shook up the somewhat dusty genre between 2015 and 2019, taking everything that wasn’t nailed down by storm: radio and television, harbor pubs and fishing trawlers, churches and concert halls, grandma’s birthday parties and open-air stages, sailing regattas and recording studios. No matter what the barometer reads, even today The Blowboys find the right course for every event. They continue to rely on finely tuned vocal harmonies in their own arrangements, while their expanded instrumentation – accordion, guitar, piano, double bass, and percussion – would make any naval band green with envy and delivers a powerful punch, both unplugged and amplified.

With their new album, Don’t Give a Ship, The Blowboys send a clear message: they think beyond narrow musical boundaries and are steering the sea shanty genre into new waters. Traditional sea songs meet modern harmonies, fresh arrangements, and urban soundscapes – a contemporary reinterpretation of maritime music. Thus, The Blowboys remain a guarantee of innovation for maritime music, an inclusive society, and for themselves. The Blowboys – a way of life!

Maritime Musik und Shanty aus Rostock in die Welt zu blowen – das ist die Mission der sieben Küstenjungs! Ein Teil der heutigen Besatzung kaperte bereits in den Jahren 2015 bis 2019 das etwas angemottete Genre gehörig auf, indem alles was nicht niet- und nagelfest war aufs Shantykorn genommen wurde: Funk und Fernsehen, Hafenspelunken und Haifischkutter, Kirchen und Konzertsäle, Omas Geburtstag und Open-Air-Bühnen, Seglertreff und Studio. Ganz gleich, was das Barometer anzeigt, auch heutzutage finden Die Blowboys wieder für jede Veranstaltung den passenden Kurs. Dabei setzen sie weiterhin auf feinabgestimmten Satzgesang in eigenen Arrangements, während das ergänzte Instrumentarium – Akkordeon, Gitarre, Klavier, Kontrabass und Percussion – jede Marinekapelle vor Neid erblassen lässt und unplugged als auch verstärkt richtig Druck macht.
Mit ihrem neuen Album Don’t Give a Ship setzen die Blowboys ein klares Zeichen: Sie denken jenseits enger musikalischer Grenzen und führen das Genre Shanty in neue Gewässer. Traditionelle Seemannslieder treffen auf moderne Harmonien, frische Arrangements und urbane Klangfarben – eine zeitgemäße Neuinterpretation maritimer Musik. So bleiben die Blowboys auch weiterhin ein Brain-Gain-Garant für maritime Musik, eine inklusive Gesellschaft und sich selbst. Die Blowboys – ein Lebensgefühl!
