Originally from the Gulf of Aden and set sail in 2020 in Kennford, Devon, Bow Movement emerged from isolation, desperation, and a shared need for attention. Named the “Take That of the shanty world” by an already over-the-top aunt, they combine tight harmonies, unconventional instrumentation, and songs that delight in a way that is far from traditional shanty.
With charm, striking jawlines, and a maritime-inspired madness, Bow Movement delivers shows that are just as unforgettable as a wild gulf in your face.

Formed in early 2020 in the village of Kennford, just south of Exeter, Bow Movement inject passion and energy into the Westcountry Shanty scene. Expect singing with gusto, instrumentation, interesting harmonies and arrangements of shanties, sea songs and folk ancient and modern. Also expect raucousity, hijinks and off the wall humor from an upstart crew that have become a regular and unique feature on festival bills.
