Seasongs – Shanties – Fishermen’s Songs – Pirate Songs

Far away from Schunkeli idyll, BREITLINGs take the wind out of the sails of all clichés.
The fifteen men sing these old songs and shanties with dedication and passion and have been delighting their audience since 1986.

Under the motto “Maritime Power Song” the songs are performed in such different languages as German, Low German, Old Flemish, Russian or French, but mostly in the seafaring language English.

The broad repertoire includes polyphonic a cappella songs that were originally sung on the tall ships to work, i.e. real shanties, but also fisherman songs, whaler ballads and pirate songs. In addition to the vocals, the instrumentation consists of accordion, mandola, guitar, bass, tin whistle and drums.

The informative and humorous moderation deserves special mention. If the opportunity arises, this will also be integrated into the program in Low German or English.

Numerous performances have taken the BREITLINGs to many places in Germany, to the Czech Republic, Belgium, Scotland, Denmark, Sweden, Lithuania and to international festivals of sea music in Wilhelmshaven, Holland, and in the UK: Bristol, Liverpool, Portsmouth and Kingston upon Hull

The old Shanties, which used to be sung on the big wind whining, were mostly working songs. They were sung vigourously, defied the stormy winds. And this is how Breitlings from the old Hanseatic city of Rostock sound.

They have been singing Shanties, pirate and fisherman songs for over three decades.

They produced 4 CDs and are also represented at Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music.
