Overview

Janie Meneely and Paul DiBlasi appeared by this name as a duo at the 2012 Chicago Maritime Festival.

From oyster poachers to ghostly treasure keepers, the band Calico Jack celebrates the people, places and historical events of the Chesapeake Bay region.

“What I love about performing in the area is the fact that people, especially along the waterfront, make that connection. They get it, they know what I’m singing about. I have so many people come up to me and say, ‘My grandfather was a waterman,’” said songwriter Janie Meneely, one half of the Calico Jack duo.

Calico Jack kicks off the Havre de Grace Maritime Museum’s summer concert series on Thursday at 7 p.m. During the month of June, the museum will host a free concert each Thursday evening featuring maritime music from the region and worldwide. This year, the series was moved from Mondays in July to Thursdays in June in order to attract larger crowds and enjoy cooler weather.

Paul Diblasi died suddenly on October 15, 2013, and Calico Jack was no more.
