Overview

Colm McGuinness is an Ireland-based composer. For Critical Role, he wrote the music playing during the episode breaks in the second and the third campaigns (“Welcome to Wildemount”, “Welcome to Marquet”).

[This is Dean Calin, and I am adding this entry for Colm R. McGuinness.  Today, 14 December 2023, I was directed to his YouTube video, “Over And Under (ORIGINAL SHANTY)”.  I listened to it.  It is not a sea shanty, it is a maritime themed song.  Just because Colm R. McGuinness calls his songs shanties does not make them so.

However, as with Nathan Evans, Assassin’s Creed IV:  Black Flag and the anarchists that keep changing the Wikipedia entry for “Sea Shanties” to read “However, in recent, popular usage, the scope of its definition is sometimes expanded to admit a wider range of repertoire and characteristics, or to refer to a “maritime work song” in general,” this Directory cannot ignore the volume of public response, as ill-informed as it may be.  That said, “Over And Under” has received 559,107 views since it premiered  October 13, 2022.  As David Coffin so wisely put it, “Welcome them all!  Maybe some of them will stick around long enough to learn what it’s really all about.”]
