The Eelder Shanty Choir was a shanty choir that was founded in 1993 during a trip to Wardenburg , the German partner municipality of Eelde .
The choir had about 60 members and was accompanied by six musicians. The first conductor of the choir was Willem Hoiting , at the time also musical director of Operetta association ADO in Paterswolde and Opera and Operetta association Emmen. He composed and arranged the first 50 songs for the choir and within half a year the first music cassette was recorded in Anne Doedens’ studio. A year later the first CD “For Sail” was released. Since 1996 the choir has been led by Jur Eckhardt , a musician who earns his living as a composer/conductor/arranger/producer. For the Eelder Shanty choir he arranged/edited all the songs, accompanied the choir with guitar , accordion , mandolin or piano , and performed as a soloist. He has also produced the following 7 CDs. The Eelder Shanty Choir was disbanded in March 2008 and gave its last three performances on March 14, 15 and 16, 2008.
