The world’s funnest shanty gang!  Farsund Shantykor – the choir whose purpose is to promote interest in singing for the enjoyment of themselves and others. The choir has its origins in the Farsund Seamen’s Association’s Shantykor.

In November 2013, the mad members were deregistered by Farsund Sjomannsforening, took the name Farsund Shantykor and stood on their own two feet.

They come over every Thursday evening and have many assignments. The choir has been on several trips abroad with a lot of songs in the repertoire. Emphasis is placed on camaraderie and informal gatherings. All members can suggest new songs, but the board decides.

The songs are about longing for the homeland, about the tough life of fun, hard work, girls and alcohol. Traditionally, shanties are work songs from the sea, especially from the sailing age when manual work was carried out rhythmically. The songs helped the crew keep the beat and made the work easier. For example, when the anchor had to be raised or the sail was set.

So then so.
