Ger Lamerus 2-4-1946 – 19-01-2023

“It’s boring,” he would say himself. Our great musical friend Ger passed away last night. Ger was a versatile, creative, and remarkable human being. We, and many, many others have enjoyed his music, poems and paintings. For a lifetime, Ger was a colorful figure in the folk scene. Many songs he wrote have become evergreens in (international) shanty music. No pickpocket player doesn’t know the tunes like “Siep Schuil” that originated from his creativity.

With folk groups Kalis, Irish Stew, Tientooners and Drijfhout for over 40 years he was a well-known musician at home and abroad. In the last years of his career Ger was mostly active on Vlieland, where he reached full houses until the very end.

Dear Ger, rest in peace. We’re going to miss you so much.
