Overview
Dick Holdstock & Allan Macleod, singers of traditional British isles folk music.
An evening of music, Holdstock and Macleod style, is filled with the richness of the music of their Scottish and English roots. The songs they sing tell more clearly than any history book what the people were thinking and feeling at the time.
Dick met Allan at the 1975 Santa Rosa Folk Festival where they were both doing solo gigs. From that point on, they have developed a lasting friendship and musical partnership.
“Most of Allan’s and my performances were were of traditional sea songs but they were probably only half of the songs we sang over the more than 40 years we were together, as can be seen by the content of all five of the albums we continue to sell on Band-Camp. Together we performed at sea festivals including Mystic, San Francisco, Galveston, Vancouver, San Diego, Seattle, and Chicago. Probably sea songs were the theme of most of the gigs we did together, however, at least 85% of our material were traditional songs. Together for 18 years we also ran a traditional British Folk Club in San Francisco called the “Castle Folk Club” with Louis Killen and Riggy Rackin as resident singers.” — from an email from Dick Holdstock 26 February 2024.
