Janusz Sikorski was a Polish singer , performer of shanties , author of translations and lyrics of many songs on sailing and sea themes, sailor.
He graduated from the Faculty of Polish Philology at the University of Warsaw . He graduated from the High School of Music in Koszalin in the oboe class . He made his debut in 1971 as a vocalist of the Czech group Blue System. In 1981, together with Jerzy Porębski , Marek Szurawski and Ryszard Muzaj, he founded the popular Polish shanty group Stare Dzwony , of which he was a long-time member. With this group, he performed many times at all the major shanty events in the country ( Shanties in Kraków, Szanty in Giżycko , Wiatrak and FAMA in Świnoujście , Wrocław , Mikołajki ), as well as abroad in England, France, the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, the USA and Canada. In the years 1979–1992 he was a journalist for Rozgłośnia Harcerska , Program IV Polskiego Radia and the Warsaw office of Radio Free Europe . At Rozgłośnia Harcerska, together with Marek Szurawski, he hosted a series of programmes under the joint title Kliper wiekz , popularising shanty music.
