Jerzy Brzezinski

Jerzy Brzezinski is a prolific YouTuber, posting dozens of videos of him demonstrating the sea shanties from Stan Hugill’s Shanties from the Seven Seas.  As a performer, he sites his inspiration from Hugill, of course, but also Poland’s Marek Szurawski, Simon Spaulding from New Bern, North Carolina, USA, and Jim Mageean from Newcastle in the United Kingdom.  Brzezinski is an avid collector of original prints of sea shanty and forebitter songbooks.

He is an avid sailor, and picked up the nickname “Shogun” during his adventures at sea.  He carried this name to his YouTube channel.  He is very much a traditional shanty performer, citing that to perform a sea shanty one needs to intrinsically understand the labor that the sailor was engaged in while singing these songs originally.

Brzezinski currently lives in Scotland, but is originally from Sosnowiec, Poland.
