Overview
Jim Mageean is a folk singer from the North East of England specialising in Sea Songs and Shanties from the Great Days of Sail. He is internationally renowned for his powerful singing and has performed all over the world. He was a long-time partner with Johnny Collins, notably performing together at the famous Liereliet festival in the Netherlands for about thirty years. In addition to his solo performances, he also performs in several other groups.
Jim’s arrangement of the song “Don’t Forget Your Old Shipmates” was used in the 2003 historical, epic film, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World. The movie’s director Peter Weir was looking for an authentic British Navy song from 1805 when he discovered Mageean’s version of the song from his 1978 album ‘Of Ships… and Men’.
