“Singing Sea Shanties To Help Make The Most Of Short And Precious Lives Across The South West……”
Our journey began back in 2011, when the founding members of The Jurassix were all singing in local choirs. Us buoys tried singing a few sea shanties and realised we had a real appreciation of shanty music. We tried a few turn up and sing events and discovered that people liked listening to our brand of shanty singing so the Jurassix were born. Choosing a name was easy, we all live on the Jurassic Coast, there was originally six of us, we are all of a certain age, so that’s how The Jurassix become the name of our shanty band.
The rest is history and the band have gone from strength to strength.
During the last 3 of years or so we have sung at over 40 events throughout the South West, mainly village fairs, shows and fetes but also local regattas, venues have included Beer Regatta, Sidmouth Folk Festival, Branscombe Village Fare, Chardstock Village Fair and Whitford Fair.
We have become very popular in an ever increasing area around East Devon and West Dorset and more recently our success has lead to us performing at private bookings such as parties and weddings.
Although the songs we sing are primarily Shanties and songs of the sea we often get requests for a wide variety of land based songs which we are gradually adding to our repertoire – our reasoning for this is if we can harmonise we’ll give it a go!
Our passion is for keeping the sea shanty alive and at the same time support Childrens Hospice Southwest
