Overview
Kana are a seven piece female shanty and folk group from Perranporth in Cornwall. Wonderful harmony in their singing of both traditional sea-shanties and their own self-penned material.
Since forming in 2022, Kana has enjoyed a huge amount of success and acclaim. Their setlists are crammed with creative takes on folk favourites as well as a suite of self-penned storytelling pieces, all beautifully arranged for seven voices by band leader, Silvia Dunn.
Having secured support slots for Fisherman’s Friends, Phil Beer, The Oggymen, Martha Tilston and Angeline Morrison, as well as making main-stage appearances at celebrated west-country festivals including Rock Oyster and Paradhis, the band has gained a steady following.
They also appeared on a charity single for Cornwall Air Ambulance, Sing it home, which peaked at No. 11 in the U.K. Download Charts.
The group’s debut EP, “UP” showcases Kana’s feminine twist on classic folk, while simultaneously demonstrating a strong handle on original material. All profits from its sales will go towards fundraising for group member Molly’s daughter, who’s currently fighting a rare form of bone cancer.(https://www.givesendgo.com/GBQB2).
