Overview
The Lazy Jacks Shanty Crew, based in the home port of Vancouver, British Columbia, is an “unprofessional” (amateur) group of singers and musicians who enjoy singing sea shanties and sea-themed songs together. We are also members of the Vancouver Folk Song Society, and inspired by the “original” Shanty Crew of the VFSS, carry on the tradition of singing together, mostly shanties and mostly acapella. While the line-up for the Lazy Jacks has changed over the years, our enthusiasm and enjoyment remain constant.
We’ve sailed the Seven Seas to perform as far away as Brackendale and Port Townsend and various points in between. Since 2013, we have been singing regularly at the Hasting Mill Museum, echoing the old songs off the timbers of what was once the Hastings Mill Store at the foot of Dunleavy St. The current location at the foot of Alma Street overlooks the water and a collection of much smaller vessels than it saw in the previous century.

COVID: Not gone, not forgotten
We know that COVID is still a risk in many situations, including close-contact singing. We’re singing again in public, but carefully choosing the venues based on our comfort (level of risk) and that of our audiences.
