Lous dou Boucarot is a French group of singers, created by Michel Darrieux in 2015. Ashore on Capbreton, the only port in Landes, this musical group showcases the history of this city nicknamed “the city of 100 captains.”

Since the first Fête de la Musique, the group has been bringing local culture to life, celebrating the rich tradition of sea shanties and songs from Gascony. “That’s our guiding thread,” says Christian Darrieumerlou, president of the association, which passionately promotes traditional music and lyrics.

“Our repertoire recalls the transport of goods along the Adour River, the often turbulent fishing trips out at sea, and even scenes from early 20th-century labour negotiations,” explains Christian. “We perform in both French and gascon neugue, the dialect once spoken here.”

Wearing their striped sailor shirts and berets, they’re impossible to miss — spreading their catchy tunes up and down the coast of Landes, from Capbreton’s jetty to Soustons, and through nearby towns like Tosse.
