Overview
The Maritime Crew was formed in 1994 and is now well established on the Auckland music scene. The Crew has made their mark in Europe, performing at maritime music festivals in Poland (2001), Germany (2005) and Germany, Holland and Switzerland (2007).
Auckland-based sea shanty group, founded in 1994 by Rudy Sunde, Gavin Asher, Jim Cardow, Terry Free, Andy Hindley, John Walton, and Frank Winter. In 2016 the group comprised John McGowan, Warren Payne, Bob Large, Lew Black, and Paul Howarth. Named “The Maritime Crew” because the group was formed with the main purpose of entertaining visitors to the Voyager New Zealand Maritime Museum in Auckland. The group regularly performs free concerts at the Museum.
