Mechanicy Szanty

Mechanicy Szanty (English:  Shanty Mechanics) is a popular maritime-themed band from Poland that has performed across Europe in their time together.

XXX ANNIVERSARY OF THE BAND
We are celebrating our jubilee for the first time.

We are a famous band that performs shanties and sailing songs. Our repertoire also includes songs from the border of Irish folk, bluegrass and country music.

Our group was founded in 1985 in Gdynia and quickly gained great recognition among the audience. We are laureates of most of the sailing song festivals in Poland (Shanties in Krakow, the Baltic Sea Song Festival in Gdynia, Świnoujście Windmill and many others).

We have performed in Finland, the Netherlands, Sweden, Germany and the USA. We have had recording sessions for radio and television behind us.

The phenomenon of the band formed by six people is the fact that, living in different cities, we meet regularly to play and sing together.
The first album entitled “Mechanicy Shanty” was recorded and released by Polskie Nagrania in 1989. According to our information, it was the best-selling cassette and album with sailing music (90,000 copies to date). In 1990, the composition of the team partially changed. This can be heard on the next cassette recorded in 1991, entitled “The smell of the land”. At the beginning of 1995, the band returned almost entirely to the line-up from the first album. In the same year, the line-up was enlarged with a bluegrass banjo. The changes in the instrumentation can be heard on the “Live’97” concert album. Two years later, we released a studio album entitled “Within the limits of folk” – where, apart from sailing songs, you can hear traces of non-sailing musical fascinations.
We are preparing to record another album, some of which have been played at concerts for some time.

With “Mechanikami Shanty” you can remember such hits as: Wild Vagabond, Sail, Maui, Green Horn, Irish Wanderer, Denis Land, Spanish from Callao, Herzogin Cecille, Polish girl, Eliza Lee, Six Mud Feet  … hits creating the new program, including: Sweet Jane, Battle, Hey! Pull Lilly, Virginia Lowlands, Digi digi, Na dno.
