Missin’ Tackle

‘Missin’ Tackle’ are a Dorset-based shanty crew. Formed in 2014, following the success of ‘The Provident’ play, these lads came together and have been singing ever since.

“We are an ancient bunch of dedicated shantymen centred on the English Riviera. and are one of the longer established crews in this area of Devon. A recent bereavement coupled with a couple of losses has reduced our numbers to 6. These need to be replenished. (for comfort).
Most of our crew have been scavenged from local choirs. but the eldest is a relic from the Old Gallers, a local group that disbanded a couple of years ago.
We do boast a Musical Director. One who strives to maintain order and who steers us with timing, harmonies. and even stage presence.
Our annual norm is some 50 gigs. supplemented with shanty festivals spread from South Wales, Bristol, Port Isaac, St Ives to Falmouth Mevagissey and others along the south coast.
We practice religiously. constantly striving to polish our performances to be both enjoyable for audiences and crew alike.

25/8/2026: Tonight saw the final performance of the last original founding member of Missin’ Tackle.

Over 11 years ago Alasdair, Roger, Clive and Phil got together and performed shanties for a theatrical production.  Since then the Brixham based group went from strength to strength. Throughout the years Alasdair has devoted many hours organising venues and completing application forms to enable Missin’ Tackle to sing at shanty festivals and joint concerts. The group has brought joy to so many people,  we thank you for your past dedication and wish you every success for your future endeavours. Alasdair is stepping away from the group to pursue new interests.

 No longer a Brixham based shanty group Missin’ Tackle is moving to Marldon. 

It is thought that the former Brixham shanty group will take a new direction.
