Overview
From a 27 Mar 2022 Facebook post: “Black Deep Shanty Crew have risen, Phoenix like, from the ashes of the Naze Shanty Crew as they emerged from Covid much reduced in number. No longer with any connections to the town of Walton-on-the-Naze, they decided the time had come for a new image and so have adopted the name of one of the deep water channels that run between the many sandbanks off the North Essex Coast.
And so 2022 will see the first season for the new crew and they are looking forward to meeting up with old friends and making new ones, rediscovering the joys of live music and revisiting some of the many clubs and festivals which were silenced by the global pandemic. Always remember that singing is good for the heart in more ways than one!
Founders of the Harwich International Shanty Festival and enthusiastic promoters of maritime music, the Naze Shanty Crew are thrilled to be performing together again after their enforced rest. Veterans of several maritime festivals at home and abroad, Harwich remains of course, their favourite. — Harwich International Shanty Festival musician profile
