Olivier Garot is a storyteller, musician and singer.

Originally from Cancale in Brittany, he often leaves room for salty sprays in his texts. Born in the great tradition of sailors’ songs, he wrote his first texts on the great sensitivity of seafarers and on the beauty of maritime history. Over the years, singing has become a tale, but music is still very present in the artist’s environment. His writing finally went together with his daily life in the Gaspé Peninsula, nose in the wind, facing the River. A storyteller in residence on Radio-Canada’s “au cœur du monde” program since 2019, he resonates with human values in each of his stories. He regularly performs alone or accompanied by talented musicians in one of his two groups, Amarre et Basse or Flamen’conte.

He became a professional storyteller in 2021 and received 2 CALQ scholarships in 2023 and 2024 for musical maritime storytelling projects with video projections.

He brings his show, Superstitia to Paimpol in 2025, a musical maritime tale that whispers to the superstitions born of the imagination of Quebec sailors. This touching story takes us aboard a wooden boat, born from the dreams of a young captain who defies wind and storms to contemplate the horizon. We sail on the St. Lawrence River, we fly over the waves, we dive into the depths. We face austerity, death too, to see the birth of a new superstition.
