“Patrick has gone to join the stars.”

— Miguel Biard, on a Facebook post on 17 Feb, 2025

Patrick Denain was a memorable, French musician.  He worked to collect and preserve the music and oral traditions of Normandy’s maritime and river heritage. Today, he is recognized for promoting this repertoire in France, Europe and even America.

Patrick Denain is a singer and co-founder of the group Marée De Paradis.  He was, notably, a partner with Miguel Biard, performing as Patrick Denain & Miguel Biard, or simply, BiarDenain.

In 2007, on the L’Ancre de Mercy label, Denain released a solo album, Du Vent dans les Voiles (English:  The Wind in the Sails).  Denain also produced an album,  Chansons de Marine & de Mariniers (English:  Marine & Sailors’ Songs), that was released on vinyl and on cassette.  It does not seem to be available new from any music portal today, though there are sometimes used copies available on Discogs.

Also available on Discogs:  Pierre Mac Orlan Chansons Pour L’Aventure Immobile and Au Rendez-vous Des Sirènes.
