Piratitude is an hilarious, raucous, pirate-themed, folk-rock singalong band from the historic pirate port of Bristol.

They play romping, rootsy, folk-rock roof-raisers, with shanties and singalongs, plus some affectionate and entertaining reinventions of classic tunes, and our own pirate material. Songs of the sea, of love, loss, travel, transportation, rum, voyages, battles, bravery, and the joys of drinking. All delivered with style, musicality, audience participation, and bags of piratitude.

And all in character and full pirate costume, of course me hearties!

The group began in the Summer of 2019 when professional entertainers and musicians Captain Barnacle (Chris Brown) and First Mate Filibuster (Steve Newton) decided to ‘do something’ with a side project of over 15 years of annual pirate-themed busking and occasional ad-hoc street entertainment.

They brought on board percussion powerhouse Singbad the Sailor (Chris Linton) and shipmate Lefty on bass (Mike Kendall), along with occasional guest fiddle supremo Vile Lynn (Mike Scott, one half of folk duo Paruski), and Piratitude was born. The lineup is completed by the glamorous Shanty (Maria Coelho), always ready to snare unsuspecting audience members into impromptu dance routines and providing general hilarity.
