Overview
Rêve de Mer, (“Dream of the Sea” in English) is a group from the Loire estuary in France that sings of sailors and the sea.
The adventure began more than twenty years ago when the group was formed in the early 1990s. It is also a group of friends who enjoy sharing their music with their audience.
” Rêve de mer ” features traditional songs as well as more recent compositions. The group also writes its own songs, notably paying tribute, on their third CD, to the only island in Loire-Atlantique: Île Dumet . The sailors of ” Rêve de mer ” will take you on a maritime journey filled with joy, outbursts of anger, rhythm, and fun. For them, the most important thing is that everyone participates and comes aboard – leaving anyone behind is out of the question!
By joining them, you’ll meet The Old Man in the back of a bistro, Jimmy Thorpes off whaling, and Jo , who dreamed of sailing on a wine tanker. You’ll visit the islands of Houat and Batz , or the port of Brest with Fanny de Laninon . You’ll need courage to discover the lives of fishermen on the Grand Banks off Newfoundland and meet the Little Gravels on Dog Island… Returning to Nantes, you’ll uncover the slave-trading past of port cities. You’ll rebuild the Sandcastle of your childhood, after braving the Year of Storms . Finally, you’ll cross the Atlantic and land on the banks of the St. Lawrence River in Saint-Jean-Port-Joli.
Fair winds!
