Overview

Sadorn is a Breton mixed polyphonic ensemble of some 45 singers accompanied by 4 or 5 musicians, singing of the sea in all its states; songs of sailors of course, but also songs of the sea.

The vocal group Sadorn was founded in 2010 within the Celtic Circle Armor Argoat of Lorient. This cheerful group of singers would gather on Saturdays to rehearse. Since Saturday is “Sadorn” in Breton, the name came naturally.

Sadorn, part of the Cercle Armor Argoat, is one of the rare mixed-gender polyphonic choirs dedicated to songs of the sea and sailors.

A variety of instruments accompany the choir, including diatonic and chromatic accordions, guitars, banjo, bouzouki, harmonica, flutes, and bodhrán (a traditional Irish drum).

Their repertoire features a rich selection of maritime songs, including traditional sea shanties and works by renowned artists such as Michel Tonnerre, Edouard Lofficial, and Gérard Jaffrès. The group also performs original compositions written by Sadorn members, and includes a number of songs in Breton. Through their music, Sadorn invites audiences to set sail across the seas through song.
